Sometimes, I get a good feeling.

You know that old phrase, "You never know what you have until it's gone?", or something along the lines of that. I think people say this to themselves plenty of times as they go through life. And sometimes, I get a little feeling inside of me of what I miss most living over here in the Middle East.
Where we are from it rains. A lot. Like 7 months out of the year, it seems. But that is also why is it so beautiful. Trees everywhere, beautiful rivers, fields of flowers- that post card look is where we are from. When it's not raining. I love summers at home. The sun is shining, there is a cool breeze blowing through your hair, and people are always up for going to a nearby lake or river to jump in or float down. As students, summer has always been our favorite holidays: no school, homework, teachers, bells, etc. And now as a teacher, I fully understand why we are given these summer breaks. Seriously. I've never worked so hard, been so stressed, or more exhausted.
Summer weather usually starts late June at home. And it is beautiful. And it normally stays beautiful for awhile. There is nothing like a summer at home. With friends, with family, doing whatever your heart desires for those 2 short months that fly by, just like that cool breeze.
But my favorite, is fall. Oregon during the fall is like Disneyland to me. The smell of pumpkin spice candles, fires crackling in living rooms, the sun still shining but a little sting of crisp, cold wind starting to brew. Hot chocolate and cinnamon rolls are in the kitchen. Football games are always on the tv. Sweaters and boots come out of their hiding and make their way to warm your body. Scarves are worn for warmth, not just fashion anymore. You bundle up for long walks by the river to look at the beautiful trees changing from green to yellow to orange. That cool wind picks up a pile of leaves and tussles them about, angering the person who just raked them up.
Duck games. Oh my Duck games. The town is painted green and yellow. Flags are hanging from car windows, radios turned to AM, the I Love My Ducks shirts are seen all over campus. There is absolutely nothing like a walk on The University of Oregon's campus on a fall day. God got out a blank canvas, and painted a beautiful picture and called it The U of O.
Being in the desert has really made me miss those things I once took for granted. The rain. Those cloudy, cuddle up by the fire days. The runs to my car to blast on the heat. I miss it.
I know, fellow Oregonians, the weather may not be what you want, but when it is taken away from you, you really appreciate what you once had. Take a deep breath and look at the beauty around you. What a beautiful state we live in and are from! God did good there.

God bless and enjoy the sunshine! See you in 15 days Oregon! :)
